Engaging Back to School Decorate a Notebook Activity for Special Needs

Your students will enjoy decorating this back-to-school notebook while practing receptive and expressive language. This activity will enhance a student’s ability to give and follow directions as well as to speak precisely.

You will need one 3-ring binder with presentation view, which means there will be a clear pocket to insert the decorated paper. You will also need two sheets of construction paper.

First, have the students cut out all of the decoration squares for the front cover. Next, have them read the directions or you may need to read the directions for them carefully and have them place the pictures where they belong. Once the work has been checked, the student may glue them in place. Finally, have the students will carefully insert the paper into the front cover.

After completing the front cover, direct the students to the back cover. Next, have the students read the directions or you may again read the directions for them carefully. Once the back cover has been checked, the student may glue the decorations in place. Again, the student will carefully insert the paper into the back cover.

Now it is time to practice expressive language. Ask the student where each school supply is located.
